I could make excuses all day for why you haven't seen any pictures of our house or received updates on any of our projects, but the real fact of the matter is we simply HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING to the house in MONTHS. Oh sure, we put in a vegetable garden again this year and we've already picked some cucumbers for pickling. But otherwise the last time I even thought about the way our house looks is when we flipped the living room and dining room. Well, that's not entirely fair. We put in a new faucet in the kitchen and we created a casual dining nook in the kitchen pantry. But I just can't help feel that walking in to our house you can really tell we have kind of given up the ghost after living here for four years. Every room looks very ... um ... (to put it kindly) lived in.
Our dining room table is piled with library books, magazines and other random things that have been placed there over the last couple of months, including the bag I took with me to Jamaica back in March. Yes, I'm shamed to admit it's still sitting there. In our bedroom my bedside table is a nightmare of books, magazine, bobby pins, medicine bottles and lotions. I finally threw away some magazines that were from 2009. And don't even get me started about the top of our dressers. They're deplorable.
I still want to turn our laundry room into a bathroom that also houses our washer and dryer. I want to so something with our bathroom so that it doesn't remain looking like the hideous 80s remodel it is. I want to paint the living room a lighter shade so it's not so dark in there, and hang new summer appropriate curtains in the dining room ... but this all requires work and I just don't want to do it. Alas, it has to be done if I'm to feel happy about where I live and continue to love my shabby little bungalow in the city. For the time being I'd like to focus a little less on the shabby parts, however.
Since this photo was taken, we have changed out the curtains for ones that are very similar, but on a cream background. Oh, and changed the carpet to a brown one. So while we got rid of some of the darkness we added more back in. And that plant on the dining room table? Nearly dead. Otherwise the room pretty much looks the same, only with more stuff spread about. Oh, and we moved the china cabinet to a different wall and hung a pretty metal round thing (such a technical description, no?) on that wall. I'd love to put up the sconces we got for our wedding ... over 8 years ago.
This is pretty much what you see when you walk into our bedroom. Dark blue walls (that I actually do kinda love) and these knock-off lamp sconces that really could use different shades.
Ah, here are the new curtains in the living room! They're very pretty but we still need to do more in there.
And here's our cute little dining nook that I actually love a lot. Right now the table has an ice cream maker, receipts from our wine clubs and random magazines strewn about.
I know our house could be adorable again and feel well loved instead of like a storage locker, but I just can't find the energy. As long as the couch and bed are clear and ready for me, that seems to be good enough.
