With all of the nervous energy pent up here at casacaudill this weekend, we decided to knock a project off our to-do list that had been on the list since we first moved in - paint the kitchen. I've had several paint chips taped to the kitchen wall for well over 12 months and we figured that this was the weekend to finally do something about it.
We know a couple of things about how we want the kitchen to look:
- black chalkboard paint on the wall leading to the laundry room (to the left of the door to the hallway, below)
- light, airy paint color ... not too pastel, but not too dark either
- something that works well with the floor color since we're not getting rid of it anytime soon

Armed with optimism and energy we headed off to Home Depot. And that's where the story falls apart. Somehow, I second-guessed my original color choice (Ralph Lauren's Solaris) and decided on Ralph Lauren's "Artist's Studio." In Home Depot the swatch looked like a bluish gray. Not so much once it was in the can. It looked like full on gray. Paired with the black chalkboard we want to paint we would have had a full on Raiders kitchen, and I'm just not down with that.
Distressed about how off we were, we bought a sander and came home. Let's see if we can give this another go before another 12 months passes.
