international steve brown chick day
Our friend Steve - Alan's known him since they were in 2nd grade - married his fiance Stiliana yesterday in a beautiful wedding at the University of California Faculty Club. Everyone was a bit worried because the weather was iffy (slightly overcast and cool), but the wedding was absolutely gorgeous, incorporating the bride's native Bulgarian traditions and the couple's love of literature. The ceremony was officiated by the groom's brother, with contributions for the bride's mother and twin sister and the groom's mother. I think this ranks up there as one of my favorite ceremonies of all time. Perfectly tailored to the couple and not at all religious, which I'm always a fan of.
And the location - GORGEOUS. I was vaguely familiar with the Faculty Club having called them 7+ years ago to inquire about our own wedding. They were unable to meet with us over the Christmas break so the site was scratched from the list. Anyone who is considering getting married in Berkeley should definitely check it out - I think my three favorite wedding sites in the East Bay are the Brazilian Room in Tilden Park, the Berkeley City Club (where we were originally going to get married before deciding to run off to Hawaii instead) and now the Berkeley Faculty Club. It's an arts & crafts building that has a large brick fireplace, high, vaulted ceilings and lots of mission style furniture.
It was also a great day because as we all get older, the core group of friends from Alan's youth are spread across the country - weddings are a wonderful time for everyone to catch up and have a great time. And a great time was definitely had by all last night. We danced like crazy fools and today my old and broken body is paying the price. I couldn't figure out why my neck and shoulders hurt and then I remembered all the head swaying I did. Oops.
My words can't do the day justice, but I think my pictures can (click on each collage for a larger version).

You took those pictures? Wow, they are amazing. They look like they are straight out of a wedding magazine - very nice.
